Puppy Classes

My dog is less than one year old. Our puppy program consists of: 1) Puppy class then 2) Fundamental Obedience and/or Canine Good Citizen.

Puppy

Teach your puppy the essentials he/she needs to develop into that dog you have always wanted. Puppies learn to behave and pay attention with other dogs nearby. They learn about their bodies and all the fun they can have climbing, jumping, crawling, sliding, and exploring. Puppies will also learn the fundamentals of good behavior and manners–sit, down, come, walk with me, drop it, and leave it. Best of all you will start to have fun and enjoy your new little buddy. And send your pup on its way to becoming a confident well mannered dog.

For those of you wanting to start PreAgility or any other dog sport, please understand Puppy classes are not designed to prepare you and your dog to start a beginner dog sport class.

Classes

This class will meet once a week on Tuesdays at either 6:00 pm or 7:30 pm for 8 weeks/classes and costs $130.00.

Basic Obedience

My dog is more than one year old and has not been trained.

Basic Obedience

Prerequisites: 12 months old or older. Up-to-date Rabies vaccinations and other vaccinations as recommended by your veterinarian.

In this class we help new (or seasoned) dog owners teach their dog the essential fundamentals for a well behaved companion dog. Critical to a well-behaved companion dog are good manners – not jumping on guests, coming when called and basic obedience commands (sit, down, come, walk with me), name recognition and good dog behavior. Emphasis is placed on reward based training methods where the dog receives a food ”paycheck” when he does the right thing. Clicker Training is emphasized but not required. Clicker training helps quickly and easily teach the skills learned in this basic obedience class. By offering your dog a food reward, and a special sound to tell him he’s done something right, You will learn to communicate with your pet in a way the dog can understand and react positively to.

Please think carefully before you enroll in a class with your reactive dog — a dog who barks, pulls and gets over-excited when encountering another dog or person. A class of 8 dogs and 8 or more new people is usually too much. We can help you with private lessons. Just contact us about private lessons. We can prepare you to enjoy a class with us!

Beyond the Basics

Join us for some new skills and lots of fun “Beyond the Basics”

Beyond the Basics

In this class dogs will review, practice and expand their skills as well as learn new skills in order to be prepared to participate in a dog sport and/or become a well mannered and fun to be with companion.We will perfect old skills and teach new ones with games and exciting active activities. We will teach platform/cato board and targeting skills used in most dogs sports or used for good manners or fun show-off tricks at home.
Crate training will also be a part of this class. This means your dog has a SAFE, secure spot to relax, recoup and hang out when you are absent or busy at trials and at home. And we will also perfect the skill of being able to just sit or down and stay quietly by your side. A strong reliable recall taught in this class is an essential skill critical for the safety of your dog at home or competing. We will emphasize this life-saving skill.

Most dogs love to jump. We will teach and expand this skill in preparation for agility, competition obedience Rally, flyball or just for some extra fun while walking or hiking or playing in the yard. When I think of something fun to do with my dog I always first think of fetch. Fetch is now a new AKC dog sport. In this class dogs will learn to fetch for this new dog sport or other dog sports or just for hours of fun at home indoors or out. In addition to these multipurpose skills we will introduce and let you try two additional dog sports, Scent/Nosework and Trieball.

Fundamental Obedience

My dog and I have already have attended a puppy or basic obedience class and want to learn more.

Fundamental Obedience

If you want to keep training your dog, this is a class for you. We will help you further your relationship with your dog while building basic skills. You will perfect and expand basic skills including recall, sit and down stay, loose lead walking, heeling and attention. You will also have the opportunity to learn tricks – tricks that can lead to earning an AKC Novice Tricks title.

Private Lessons

My dog and I need special individual help.

Private Lessons

Our privates cost $48/half hour. We schedule lessons Monday – Saturday 8:00 am – 4:00 pm at our training center in downtown Beech Grove. The instructor can help you with the skills you want to teach and/or the issues you would like to resolve.
