Beginner Novice Competition Obedience Class

Prerequisites: Basic obedience class or instructor’s recommendation. Knowledge of the following skills:, sit, down, walk on a loose leash. We assume your dog knows the basics, can pay attention and follow your commands even with other dogs nearby. A strong working relationship between the handler and his/her dog is essential to learn and enjoy competitive obedience. In this classes everyone is expected to be sincerely interested in competing in AKC Beginner Novice class and dedicated to training each week at home.

 

Begin your training for competition in our Beginner Novice class. Learn the fundamentals and skills needed to compete in an AKC Beginner Novice class. These skills include on-lead heeling, halts, fronts, finishes, recalls, sit for exam, and sit stays.

Classes

This class will meet once a week for 8 weeks/classes and costs $110.00. The class meets on Mondays at 6:00 pm. Email or call for the date of our next session.

Novice Competition Obedience Class

Novice Competition Obedience Class

Prerequisites: Beginner Novice title or Beginner Novice Obedience instructor recommendation. In this classes everyone is expected to be sincerely interested in competing in AKC or CDSP Novice classes and dedicated to training each week at home.

 

Continue your competitive journey by learning the skills to compete at the Novice level in both AKC and the Companion Dog Sports Program. You will expand and perfect your on-lead heeling, fronts, finishes, recalls and stays. And learn to heel off-lead through a heeling pattern or figure eight. Go from sit for exam to stand for exam and from sit stay in the center of the ring to sit and down stay for a longer period of time with the handler across the ring. In other words prefect your skills and prepare for competition in AKC or CDSP Novice classes.

This class will meet once a week for 8 weeks/classes and costs $110.00. The class meets on Mondays at 6:00 pm or Wednesdays at 9:00 am. Email or call for the date of our next session.

Open/Utility Foundations Competition Obedience Class

Prerequisites: Knowledge of the following skills:, sit, down, heeling basics, a reliable recall, and sit/down stay. We assume your dog knows the basics, can pay attention and follow your commands even with other dogs nearby. In this classes everyone is expected to be sincerely interested in competing in AKC or CDSP Open and Utility classes and dedicated to training each week at home.

 

In this class, you and your dog will learn many of the foundation skills for retrieves, drop on recall, out-of-sight stays, signals, go outs, gloves, and scent work. This is only a fundamental/foundation skill class; only the basics will be taught. To become proficient and ring-ready with these skills, the dog/handler team will need to continue on their own to perfect these basics to the ready-to-compete level or attend our Open and Utility level obedience classes.

Meet the Instructor

Anne O’Toole

Anne O’Toole has been competing in dog sports since 2000. Her first border collie, Roy IV, began by earning his Novice A Obedience title and went on to earn 4 UDXs, an Obedience Trial Champion (OTCH), AX, AXJ (agility titles), HXAs HXBS (AKC herding titles) and an AKC Herding championship (HC). Roy was also an open trial winner in USBCHA (United States Border Collie Handlers Association) trials. Her second border collie OTCH Pete UDX HXAs HXBs AX OAJ was also an open USBCHA trial winner and was just shy of his AKC Herding Championship when he died at age 6. O’Toole currently owns 4 border collies, three of whom are competing at the advanced levels of obedience, herding and agility. They are HC Monty UD HXAs HXBs MX MXJ, Mint UD HXAs HXBs AX AXJ and Pea AX AXJ. She also owns puppy Tweed.

Open to Utility Competition Obedience Class

Prerequisites: CD or CD-H title or instructor recommendation. In this classes everyone is expected to be sincerely interested in competing in AKC or CDSP Open classes and dedicated to training each week at home.

 

Continue to climb the competition obedience skills ladder and teach your dog the new skills needed to compete at Open level in AKC or CDSP. These skills include off-lead heeling, broad jump, down on recall, retrieve, and out-of-sight stays. Also the basic skills for Utility level in AKC or CDSP will be introduced. Open run throughs with instruction are also available at an additional charge.

Prerequisites: CD or CD-H title or instructor recommendation. In this classes everyone is expected to be sincerely interested in competing in AKC or CDSP Open and Utility classes and dedicated to training each week at home.

 

Climb to advanced obedience competition by teaching your dog the new skills need to compete at the Open or Utility ring in AKC or CDSP. These skills include broad jump, down on recall, retrieve, scent discrimination, directed jumping, directed retrieve, signals, advanced stand for exam etc.

Utility and Beyond Competition Obedience Class

Prerequisites: CDX or CDX-H title or instructor recommendation and understanding of the fundamental skills needed to compete in Utility. In this classes everyone is expected to be sincerely interested in competing in AKC or CDSP Open classes and dedicated to training each week at home.

 

Proceed to the highest levels of competition obedience. Learning, expanding and perfecting the advanced skills needed to compete at the Utility level in AKC or CDSP. Utility run throughs with instruction are also available at an additional charge.

This class will meet once a week for 8 weeks/classes and costs $110.00. The class meets on Thursdays at 7:30 pm. Email or call for the date of our next session.
